No Comments On Wool Meeting
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 18. Secrecy surrounded the meeting between officials of the Wool Commission, the Wool Board, and Federated Farmers in Wellington today.
All parties declined to comment on the talks which concerned the new floor price and the proposed supplement. The meeting was aimed at clarifying various aspects of the new price system. The parties will meet again tomorrow for final discussions.
The chairman of the Meat and Wool Council of the Federated Farmers (Mr F. G. Spackman) said the reduced price meant a $200,000 payout ef industry funds to growers.
“The important thing is, are we going to earn any more overseas exchange?” he said.
Mr Spackman felt one sale was not a real test of the new price. The critical time would be in January and February when the bulk of the new fleece reached the market, he said. The manager of the Wool Commission (Mr H. L. M. Pierse) declined to comment until he had received full details of the sale.
