Thieves Lose Safe
CN.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 16. Alert residents at Titirangi last night scared off thieves who were trying to open a safe with pick axes near the scenic drive. One woman, woken by noises, got her husband to telephone the police. He then drove his car along the drive until he saw two men working at the safe beside a parked car. He switched on a spotlight and the men fled into the bush. He took the keys from their car and waited. The police arrived with tracker dogs but trace of the men was lost where they emerged from the bush on to the main road. The recovered safe contained $4OO. The car used by the thieves was also stolen.
