Slippery Floors In Gymnasiums
SEVERAL fine new gymnaslums have been constructed in Christchurch in
the last few years and these have been a tremendous boost to indoor sports. Unfortunately, several have been built with concrete floors covered with plastio tiles, and these are unsuitable for many of the activities gymnasiums are usually designed for. These floors are far too hard and are so slippery that they can be dangerous if great care is not taken. At least one basketban player has suffered a broken leg as a result of attempting to practice on one of these floors tills season and there have been other minor in-
juries, such as twisted ankles and braises. For sports such as basketball badminton and gymnastics, concrete floors, especially those covered with linoleum or plastic tiles, are completely inadequate The only suitable type of floor for a gymnasium or indoor sports stadium is a wooden one.
