M. Harrow). A fortnightly shipload of 300 tons of flour arrived in Wanganui from the South Island on Monday for delivery to bakers, pastry-cooks and grocers’ merchants throughout the Immediate district and as far north as Stratford and Taumarunui. Supplies had already been
sent—one lot to Stratford—when a merchant told Mr Harrow of a peculiar smell coming from the newly-arrived flour. The warning came late on Tuesday afternoon. Samples wen flown to the Wheat Besearch Institute in Christchurch on Wednesday and most of the flour was held at the port The institute said today that the flour was flt for baking purposes, but that no-one was 100 per eent sure what had been absorbed into the fat of the flour. Mr Harrow said it was i thought it had been caused by - malt eombings—a stock food, i Grocers’ merchants were being advised to return the i flour.
