Phone 44-179. 3038 AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL CADETS DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL AVIATION (VACANCY No. 37) THE DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL AVIATION invites applications from young men with a positive interest in aviation who wish to make a career in Air Traffic Control. AGE: Age should not be less than 18 or more than 21 on April 1,1968. QUALIFICATIONS: The desired minimum educational qualification Is University Entrance with passes in mathematics and preferably also in physics and/or science, but applicants with School Certificate and passes in similar subjects may also be considered. MEDICAL FITNESS: This is a prime requirement and applicants will be required to pass stringent medical examinations. TRAINING: Cadetships commence in January and April, 1968, and are for three years. Training will comprise flying instruction as a pilot together with tuition in air navigation, meteorology, theory of flight, air traffic control practices and procedures and allied subjects. This instruction will be interspersed with practical air traffic control training at different airports throughout New Zealand. SALARY: Commencing salaries will be in accordance with age and qualifications. With University Entrance and no other relevant work experience the commencing salary will be $1220 a year and with Higher School Certificate $1220 increasing to $1374 a year after six months. Subject to satisfactory performance, salaries increase by annual increments, the present maximum for the scale being $2390. PROMOTION: On completion of Cadetship and qualification for an Air Traffic Controllers’ Certificate, Cadets will be promoted to Air Traffic Control Officers at a salary of 53130 a year (on present rates) and an initial maximum of $3660. Subsequently, on qualifying for a radar rating and being employed on these duties, there is automatic promotion to the next grade which has a salary range (at present rates) of $3790 to $4090 a year and there are good prospects for further promotion on a competitive basis. Salary is supplemented by penal rates and shift allowances for work on week-ends, public holidays and at night BOND: Cadets will be bonded on entry, to serve in the New Zealand Public Service for a period of five years from the date of certification as an Air Traffic Control Officer.
