Go Where You Like

If the ways of the young people of today are any indication future generations will not only desire but demand to be mobile. This will mean among other things a boom in caravans.

Designers and makers of caravans are not waiting for this. They are turning out new models at a speed comparable with that of motorcars. They are constantly revising and developing ideas bearing in mind that the demands of an expanding industry where the hazards of increasingly heavy traffic require the best in constructional design.

An all metal framework in a caravan is considered the safest at present just as all metal components are now used in cars, aircraft and omnibuses.

For interior comfort New Zealand manufac-

turers are looking to overseas trends, particularly with the use of insulation. While under construction the caravan walls and roof are packed with wool insulation which accounts for the coolness in summer and warmth in winter.

If one wants to take in the snow-bound high country during a winter tour then insulation is an essential.

With improved roads and the greater horsepower of the modern car there is a notable swing towards the larger Caravans. This year there will be quite a range of the 18foot models coming off the assembly lines. In most

cases they will be furnished with what are considered luxury items—refrigerators, showers and wash units.

But the price range is not considered excessive. An 18ft caravan with such equipment would cost between $2OOO and $2600. While the older generation wants mobility with comfort in their caravans the younger brigade seek mobility first then comfort and efficiency in towing that will enable them to go where they like when they like. Altogether these things make for good enjoyable caravanning.
