MAIDSTONE (Kent)
Wanted, a good home for Fred, but he’s no fluffy kitten, or lonesome pup threatened with the dog pound. He’s a nine-foot cross between a dahlia and a tomato plant He erupted from a seedbox two months ago, and is still causing his owner a lot of heartache, so much so that she wants him adopted.
The plant came in a packet of seeds that Mrs Ruby Martin bought to brighten up the backyard of her cafe. “When I bought the seeds I asked for something small to fit in Seed boxes, but then Fred started growing.
“It was a joke at first. But now he takes so much water that all the. other flowers are dying. He will just have to go.” said Mrs Martin. Her gardening friends have all inspected Fred. But no-one knows exactly what he IS. She has even sent a cutting to Kew Gardens.
“Nqw I am looking for someone with a Fred-size garden, and they can have him with pleasure,” she said. >
