‘Pretty Obvious’

Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 12.

The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) today commented on the early closing of hotel bars at Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch.

He had been referred at a press conference to reports that some hotels were closing their bars at 7 p.m.

Asked if he considered early closing was defeating the purpose of the recent sale-of-liquor hours referendum and the legislation which provided for late closing. Mr Holyoake said: “It’s pretty obvious.” Asked if he would agree that the Government had put the liquor legislation through Parliament too quickly, the Prime Minister declined to comment.
