Hops Gallops With Dash
“The Press" Special Service HASTINGS. The stablemates. Greenstone and Hops, which are engaged in the Wellington Guineas and the October Handicap respectively, worked impressively over six furlongs at Hastings yesterday. Both horses are at peak fitness for their Trentham engagements. On the course proper where the going was perfect, Hops <R. B. Marsh) and Greenstone (A. T. Jones) worked together over six furlongs in imin 16 3-ssec, the last three furlongs in 40sec. Hops disappointed in the sprint at Waipukurau. She is a very long-striding filly and it is unlikely she would have been suited by the WaimiKurau track with its undulations.
Halcyon <B. S. Dodds) worked quietly around at half pac? running the last three furlongs in 37 2-ssec.
Terramycin (E. Jones) ran three furlongs in 42sec.
Loofah Fit
"The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON. A brilliant five-furlong trial by Loofah at Levin yesterday indicated that although fresh, he will still be a strong candidate in the Shorts Handicap at Trentham tomorrow.
Work took place 25 feet out on the course proper, which was firm.
Loofah went effortlessly through his work and took Imin 2see for five furlongs. Jetmate, which Is forward for his resumption, went four furlongs in 48sec. He has gone well fresh in the past and should make a bold showing this week. Prince Hagen was set the same task as Loofah, but he took Imin 3sec for the distance.
