AUCKLAND TAXIS
Single Colour Suggested (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 12. The Auckland Co-operative Taxi Society, which controls 568 of the 659 taxis in Auckland city, will hold a referendum of members to decide whether all cabs should be painted the same colour and if so which colour. The society is also studying whether improved roof signs could be adopted. It will also launch a “courtesy pays dividends" campaign, telling drivers to be courteous.
Seventy-nine of the other taxis in Auckland city, excluding North Shore, belong to Alert Taxis and 12 are independent.
Lease Transferred.—The Hilltop Hotel changed hands recently. Mr B. Gibson and his wife, formerly of Christchurch, bought the lease from Mr W. Barnes. The transfer was negotiated by Mr J. K. McNeill, a hotel broker and real estate agent.
