Backing For Open Tennis

A senior Australian tennis official said yesterday he supported England’s plan to stage an open Wimbledon next year and declared Australia should back the idea. Mr Wayne Reid, a vicepresident of the Australian Lawn Tennis Association, and one of its representatives at the recent international federation’s conference, emphasised he was expressing s personal view.
“I believe amateur bodies should act now to protect their assets before the professionals become too well organised,” he said.
