TRAPPED MEN

Search By Divers (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 12. The police were diving off Jellicoe Wharf in deep water tonight in a bid to reach two men trapped in a car.

The car, with four men, went off the end of the wharf about 11 p.m. A young police officer stripped and jumped in to rescue two men who were struggling near the surface. One was rushed unconscious to hospital and the police were interviewing the other late tonight. Constable E. H. Tyler said the uninjured man was holding his friend by the throat, trying to keep his head above water.

Constable Tyler said he and the uninjured man dragged the unconscious passenger to ‘the wharf.
