“Mona Vale”

Sir,—Opponents of the purchase have used the argument that it is unnecessary as Hagley Park is available not far away. It should not be overlooked that an area of the park much larger than “Mona Vale” will shortly be lost to the motorway. Presumably the City Council will receive compensation for the loss of this land from the National Roads Board, and it would be fitting if “Mona Vale” were purchased with this money as some recompense to the citizens for the reduction in size of the park. It would seem that the only difficulty to be overcome would be one of timing, and surely this is not insurmountable.—Yours, etc., COLONIAL. October 11, 1967.
