SUICIDE OF AMER

Source Of Poison

A.-Reuter—Copyright) BEIRUT, Oct. 11. Egypt’s Prosecutor-Gen-eral said in a report tonight that it had been established beyond doubt that Field-Marshal Abdel Hakim Amer, President Nasser’s long-standing friend and former VicePresident, was killed by poison which came from Egyptian intelligence. According to the report, quoted by Cairo Radio, the death of- Amer was a case of suicide. But it had been established beyond doubt that the aconite, a deadly poison, taken by Amer came from Egyptian intelligence. Mr Salah Nasr, who was chief of Egyptian military intelligence at the time of Amer’s death, has been under house arrest for some time now.

Amer had been put under house arrest a few days before his death for plotting to get back the post of Deputy Supreme Commander which he lost after the June war against Israel.
