Cover Defence
Rugby laws have become increasingly complex, but even with the reams of interpretations they cannot cover every situation which may arise on a Rugby field. In a match in Malaysia recently, a wing picked up a dropped pass and raced towards the goalline hotly pursued by a defender, who was gaining on him. Suddenly, his approach unobserved in the general excitement, a parachutist making a free fall jump landed on the pursuer and flattened him. The try was scored and the defending team appealed to the referee. Showing the wisdom of a Solomon, the referee ruled that the parachutist was an act Of God and that the try should stand.
