OBITUARY MR L. A. HULSTON
A former city auctioneer and real estate agent in Christchurch, Leonard Arthur Hulston, died in Christchurch last week. He was 76.
Mr Hulston, began Hulstons Auction Rooms, in Manchester Street, and leased them for some time after he retired before he sold to another company. He was born in Riccarton and lived in Christchurch most of his life. His mother, Jane Sarah Whitley, was born in Lyttelton in 1851 and his father came to New Zealand at the age of nine before the first four ships arrived at Lyttelton.
Mr Hulston was a keen howler and was member of an unofficial New Zealand bowling team which toured England in 1951. He was twice president of the Canterbury Bowling Club and was a life member. He was also a president of the Waimairi Beach Golf Club. He represented Canterbury at hockey. While he lived at Redcliffs from 1928 to 1933 he took part in many power boat races in the Estuary. Mr Hulston is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs W. C. Walker, of Christchurch, and Miss N. Hulston, of Auckland.
