The “New York Times” announced that it had decided not to enter the afternoon newspaper field. The decision was disclosed in a memorandum to the staff of the “New York Times” by its president and publisher. Mr Arthur Ochs Sulzberger. The possibility of launching an afternoon paper had been under consideration since the “New York World Journal Tribune” ceased publication on May 5, this year, leaving the city with only one metropolitan afternoon paper, the “New York Post.” New York’s only other morning paper, the “Daily News,” is also known,to have been considering putting out an afternoon paper. It has not yet announced its decision.
