Top Pacers In ‘Race’ At Te Awamutu

"The Press" Special Service

AUCKLAND. Superior Chief and Amend have joined the list of tightclass pacers which will participate in a special “race” at the Te Awamutu Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday.

“We will be pleased to have them,” said the president, Mr C. W. Eyre, on Monday, after he was advised that their trainer, R. Purdon, .was keen to run them;

Great Adios will not compete. His trainer, R. P. Norton, said that the changing of the -conditions for the F. J. Smith Memorial Handicap at Alexandra Park on Saturday week was the main reason he would not take the horse to Te Awamutu.

“Until it was made an invitation race, I was not planning to start Great Adios at the Auckland meeting,” he said.

“After Auckland, he wijl race at Kaikoura on October 30, before the New Zealand Cup.

“I feel he is right at tdp now and a hard run before the Auckland and Kaikoura meetings could affect him, especially as he is not a particularly good traveller. I do not want to travel him unless I'have to.” • Tobias is a certain starter. His trainer-driver, J.. Butcher,

sajd it would not be just a sprint from the top of the «traight as far as he was concerned. "I want him to have a really good run,” he said.

The remaining contestants are Viking Water, Herby Tryax, Loyal Knight, Full Sovereign and Lonesome Valley. The distance is a mile and a half and the event will be between the fourth and fifth races.
