University Out Of Tennis

University, which had difficulty fielding a tennis team last season and had to default a number of matches, has not entered for the Canterbury senior men’s grade this season.

Its replacement will be Linwood Avenue Which was beaten in an elimination match before the competition began last year, but which had been in the grade the previous season. It will be the first season in many that University has missed. 1 The grade will begin on

October 21 with Edgeware, Elmwood, Woolston, North Linwood, Cashmere, Beckenham, United and Linwood Avenue.

This season five more teams have entered for all the association’s grades—7l compared with 66—and two of the extra entries have gone to the recently badly supported senior women’s grade. The new entrants are Shirley and St Albans. The teams, which will begin on November 4, are Edgeware, United St Albans, Elmwood, Avonside and Shirley.

Of the 10 teams , in senior reserve an interesting newcomer is a young side from Sumner. Opawa has been pro-

rnoted from second men’s grade and Sumner and Opawa replace Beckenham and Barrington. North Linwood I and 11, Fendalton, St Albans, Avonside, Linwood Avenue, United and Shirley will be the other teams in the grade, which will begin on November 18.

Although the entry in the men’s second grade has dropped from 15 to 12, it has two new teams from the Riccarton Domain club which has recently rejoined the association. Also beginning on November 18, the grade will be:

Section 1: South Christchurch, St Albans. Edgeware, Riccarton Domain I, United, North, Linwood. Sec-

tion 11. Spreydon, St Martins, Fendalton, Riccarton Domain 11, Shirley and Linwood Avenue.
