SOMBRE REPORT
Fear About U.N. (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) NEW YORK, Sept. 20. The Secretary-General U Thant of the United Nations, yesterday proposed a series of Security Council meetings at foreign minister level to tackle world problems and restore confidence in the United Nations. In the most sombre “state of the world” report ever presented to the General Assembly, which began its twentysecond Regular Session yes-1 terday, U Thant said the inter-I national situation had deteriorated considerably. He admitted a crisis of confidence in the world body caused by the Middle East war and the continuing Vietnam conflict and urged members to “build bridges of reconciliation,” to show again that the United Nations could promote peace and progress.
