Sale Opposed
Several objections had been received to the proposed sale of part of the Kaituna Spur scenic reserve, on Banks Peninsula, said Mr D. C. Morse, of the Lands and Survey Department, yesterday. The view of the Canterbury branch of the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society had also been sought, and would be referred to the scenic reserves sub-commit-tee of the National Parks Authority. Outward Bound Graeme Boddy, of Sevenoaks Drive, has been chosen from eight candidates for the Waimairi County Council’s sponsored course at the Outward Bound school at Anakiwa. He is a pupil of the Burnside High School. More Wool New Zealand, as a woolproducing country, should be making more use of woollen products, said Mr R. £. Hiatt, at a meeting yesterday of the meat and wool'section executive of North Canterbury Federated Farmers yesterday. Wool carpets should be used in public buildings, for instance, and wool products should be seen everywhere. Mild Day Patches of fog cleared in Christchurch about 10 a.m. yesterday. For the rest of the morning the weather was fine and sunny, and mild conditions continued all day The maximum temperature recorded at Harewood was 62 degrees, at 1 p.m. Shortly afterwards the wind changed from a south-westerly to a light to moderate north-east-erly, and cloud increased throughout the afternoon The temperature recorded at Harewood at 6 a.m. was 43 degrees, at 9 a.m. it was 47 degrees, at noon 58 degrees, and at 3 p.m. 57 degrees. At 3 p.m. in the Botanic Gardens the temperature was 56 degrees.
Identity Problem The identity of a man who died recently in the Whakatane Hospital may now be known, but more police inquiries in Wellington will be necessary for positive identification. Inquiries spread to Christchurch when it was found that the man might have lived in New Brighton After a photograph and description of the man had been printed in Christchurch newspapers the police received many calls about the man’s identity. Caught In Grating An ambulance was called to a child whose arm had become caught in a drain grating in Frensham Street about 3.42 p.m. yesterday. The ambulance driver freed the child, who had been trying to reach a toy sword which had fallen through the grating The child was not hurt, and required no treatment. The ambulance driver also retrieved the sword.
