Club Queries $75 Charge
A delegate of the Lancaster Park club, Mr I. J. Kennedy, was ruled out of order at the annual general meeting of the Canterbury Cricket Association last evening when he attempted to query a charge of $75 made to his club.
The charge appeared in the; year’s income and expenditure account as a sundry receipt under ground rentals. “Was this $75 charge, a charge made on the Lancaster Park club for its ground, and an increase of $75 on the charge made to the C.C.A. by the Victory Park Board?” asked Mr Kennedy. When the treasurer (Mr D. B. Hughey) said this was so, Mr Kennedy asked: “Why has the C.C.A. added this surcharge? “Has the C.C.A. added anything to the rentals of the other clubs not situated at Hagley Park?” The retiring president (Mr I. A. Baxter) said the matter had been discussed by the management committee in committee and the club had recourse by writing to the association.
Mr Kennedy said this had been done without any satisfaction to the club. However. Mr Baxter ruled the discussion out of order and should be dealt with by the management committee. At a much later stage of the meeting, Mr Kennedy successfully proposed a protest at the action of the retiring management committee for its action and the manner in which it dealt with the “increased rental” and Lancaster Park’s protest.
