Praise For C.I.A.

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Sept. 20. The Administration had praised the Central Intelligence Agency as the “best in the world” and said it made the earth a better place in which to live, United Press International reported. In a letter commemorating the twentieth anniversary of the C.I.A. President Johnson told the agency’s employees that: “America relies on your constant dedication to the duty on your commitment to the democratic ideal.”

He said 20 years ago the United States did not have a broad-scale intelligence service worthy of the name but today it had. The Vice-President. Mr Hubert Humphrey, spoke to employees at the C.I.A. building in nearby Langley, Virginia. He told them they were responsible for a “much broader knowledge of the world . . . and I believe that the world is a better place for the people on the earth, because there has been, there is, and will continue to be a C.1.A.”
