Cup Hopes Yet For Light Fingers

Cummings, still have hopes that the champion New Zealand-bred ■pare Light Fingers will be fit to run in her third Melbourne Cup. Light Fingers won the 1085 Melbourne Cup and was second last year to her stablemate Galilee, also New Zealand-bred. “Light Fingers will undergo a course of treatment and while we won’t know for a fortnight there are still prospects that she can be trained for the big cup," Mr Broderick (aid oa Monday. “It is now In the ’lap of the gods,* but Light Finger* . ba* great recuperative power*, h* •aid. “Even after a fortnight there will atill bo five week* before
the Melbourne Cup to run and Light Finger* come* to hand quickly,” Mr Broderick eald. “Light Fingere was tree to her action thia morning aa« could be on the improve," Cummings said. “There Is » chance that she will be all right.” Cummings flew back from Adelaide on Monday to confer with Mr Broderick after the inspection of Light Fingers's injury on Sunday by a Sydney veterinary surgeon, Mr P. Sykes. Light Fingers, which is suffering from bruised muscles behind the knee of her off foreleg, pulled up lame after finishing fifth in the weight-for-age Cralglee Stakes at Flemington last Saturday week. Cumming* ulfi that Light Finger* would hav* the usual treatment for her complaint—heat poultice*—and would be kept at exercise*.
