‘Crash’ Programme For Cricketers
(New Zealand Press Association/
WELLINGTON.
The New Zealand cricket team to tour Australia in November and December will have a “crash” programme of nets and discussion at Gisborne during the week-end of September 30.
The touring captain, B. W., Sinclair, expressed concern yesterday that bad weather: had seriously disrupted the; practice and training plans of team members. “We must make up the leeway at Gisborne,” he said.
, The team will have discussions aimed at analysing the jform of Australian batsmen and the way their possible weaknesses can be attacked. I Sinclair said that the whole
tenor of the talks would be to force home to the players the desire to play positive, attacking cricket on tour. “We must sell ourselves to the Australians on this tour, show them we are, indeed, good enough to tour. “We will not do this by batting slowly or defensively. We must get on with the job. “We will achieve nothing by playing negative cricket—we might as well not go." Sinclair said he had been able to practise on grass only once and he was deeply concerned at the effect the bad weather had had on the training of all members of the team. “That is why the week-end at Gisborne must be one of solid hard cricket.”
