FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. — A weak ridge of high pressure lies over the north-east Tasman Sea; the shallow depression south of New Zealand is moving slowly southwards. Forecast:

Canterbury and Kaikoura coast. —Winds mainly moderate and variable; mainly fine but some showers in the Alps later in the day; mild day temperatures.

Marlborough, except Kaikoura coast.—Moderate north-westerlies freshening later in the day; partly cloudy mild weather predominating, but cloud increasing later today with some showers developing.

Buller and Westland.—Moderate variable winds; cloud increasing during the day, with rain likely; moderate temperatures. Outlook. —West to south-westerly conditions with some showers, more especially in the west of the ranges. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
