12 Persons Injured In Road Accidents
Twelve persons were injured in road accidents in and near Christchurch yesterday, but only four were admitted to hospital.
A youth was injured when he fell from a motor-scooter into the path of a passing cai on the Summit Bead between
thy Sign of the Kiwi and the Sign of the Bellbird yesterday afternoon.
The youth, Gary Brownlees, aged 16, of 10 Joy Street, was taken to the Christchurch Hospital in a St John ambulance with pelvis and leg injuries. His condition was reported to be satisfactory. He was the pillion passenger on the scooter, driven by Phillip Price, aged 16, of 47 Pembroke Street, who suffered shock. The soootei skidded in shingle. Six persons suffered slight injuries when two cars collided on the Main South Road at Burnham Military Camp about 1.10 a.m. yesterday. Both cars were travelling south. One, carrying four soldiers, turned into the road leading to the camp and was hit by the other. The soldiers’ car rolled over, and petrol spilled on the road. The Burnham Camp Fire Brigade flooded the road with Water in case the petrol caught fire. The occupants of the other car were a young man and woman from Winchtnore.
Head Injuries.—Mr D. F. Thompson, of 150 Aikmans Road, suffered head injuries when two cars collided outside 453 Main South Road about 12.30 a.m. yesterday. He was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital, where his condition was reported to be satisfactory. Miss V. Sexton, of 453 Main South Road, who was also in the car, suffered slight injuries. Cars Collide.—When two cars collided at the comer of Cashel Street and Madras Street at 12.36 a.m. yesterday, Brian Gilbert, of 322, Stanmore Road, suffered head and chest injuries. He was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital, where his condition was reported to be satisfactory. Woman Hurt—Mrs Katherine Carter, of 40 Joy Street, suffered head and leg injuries when two cars collided yesterday afternoon at the comer of Mcßratneys Road and Banks Avenue. Mrs Carter was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital, where her condition was reported to be satisfactory.
