Port Labour Short

Yesterday, for the third successive day, there was not enough waterfront labour at Lyttelton. When work began at 7 a.m., 713 men were engaged but another 80 men would have been needed to fully man all vessels. The Kaimai was idle for the second day and the newly arrived Caledonia Star was also idle. Another new arrival, the Ingleton, anchored in the. stream but is expected to berth today. Bad weather has delayed some sailings but the position is expected to ease by the week-end.
