“British Pledge To N.Z. Stands”
(New Zealand Preu Auociation) AUCKLAND, August 29. The Minister of State for the British Board of Trade, Mr George Darling, seemed unperturbed in Auckland this evening about today’s changes in the British Cabinet.
Mr Darling did not consider that the replacement of the President of the Board of Trade, Mr Douglas Jay, who opposes Britain’s entry into the European Common Mar-
• ket, by Mr Anthony Crosland, > a supporter of the bid, would f be bad for New Zealand. > “I deprecate any sugges- > tion that the appointment of -Mr Crosland will adversely - affect New Zealand's trade if Britain goes into the E.E.C.,” Mr Darling said. “I assume the change will make no difference to the pledge the Prime Minister has given that he considers it Britain’s duty to seek the necessary safeguards for New Zealand.” Mr Darling is in Auckland during the course of a threeweek visit to New Zealand as a guest of the Government.
