Hie brilliant IS-yeareld West German, W. Peters, displaying seam of the form which unexpectedly won him the singles final at the tenth world canoeing olalom at Llpne in CsedhMlovakla.
Peters, regarded as a rank outsider before the final, rose to the occasion magnificently to beat the East German and Crechoelovaklan favourites, On the first day of the champlenaNps he finished only fourteenth. Two seasons ago, Peters wu unheard of at world ehampiecshlp level. His win was the first ever gained by West Germany in the singles event. The West German team finished third overall in th* ClUMpiMMltipt.
