More Prize Money On Golf Circuit
An increase in the prize money for the Metalcraft tournament of $l6OO and the addition of a second New Year tournament has taken the money to be won on the New Zealand professional golf circuit from $29,000 to $30,600.
The circuit will begin, as it did last year, with the New Zealand Open, this time at Hamilton, with prize money unchanged ’ at $3600. This tournament begins on Novem-
her 15 and ends on November 18.
From Hamilton, the players will go to the Watties tournament at Hastings, with the prize money $3OOO as it was last year. The third tournament is the Caltex at Paraparaumu Beach, from November 23 to 25, with the prize money unchanged at $4OOO. A new event, the Landrover $2OOO at Wanganui, has been added. This is a 36-hole, oneday event on November 27.
Then comes the Wills Masters at Russley (again $4000) from November 30 to December 2, after which the players will travel to Auckland for the B.P. $4OOO at Titirangi. Here, too, the prize money is as it was last year.
The seventh event is the Metalcraft Industries $4OOO, to be played this year at Miramar. Last year, at Hamilton, this event carried prize money of $2400. The New Zealand professional championship, now the Stars Travel $4OOO, will again be at Mount Maunganui, and a new event is the Spalding Masters $2OOO to be played at Tauranga, over 54 holes on two days.
