ELECTORAL ROLLS
Closing Date August 23
People who were eligible to vote in the referenda but were not on the electoral rolls had until 6 p.m. on August 23 to enrol, the Registrar of Electors (Mr F. G. Elsmore) said yesterday. Supplementary rolls will close on August 23 and the referenda will be on September 23.
Mr Elsmore said that since the 1966 General Election notices had been sent to those not enrolled reminding them of their obligation. Many had not replied. Mr Elsmore said it was compulsory to be on the rolls. The required qualifications were to be a British subject by birth or naturalisation; aged 21; having resided in New Zealand for at least a year; and having lived in an electorate for three months before the date of application for enrolment. Mr Elsmore said enrolment cards could be obtained from any post office or from the office of the Registrar of Electors.
