CHILDREN’S COURT CASES FOR JULY

A boy aged is was sentenced to detention and disqualified from driving for two years on a charge of unlawfully taking a motor car when he appeared in the Christchurch Children’s Court In July. Another boy of 16 was placed on probation for IS months and ordered to make restitution of <325 53 on a charge of burglary. Other cases dealt with in the Court during the month were as follows:

Found to be not under proper control, a boy aged 14 was committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare. Four girls, aged 16 to 17, charged with escaping, were admonished and returned to the care of the Superintendent of

Child Welface, as was another girl of the same age who appeared on a charge of assisting in an escape from a Child Welfare Institution.

Others similarly dealt with were two boys aged 13 charged with burglary, theft and unlawfully interfering with a car, a girl of the same age charged with theft, three girls aged 14 to 16, charged with wilful damage, a boy aged 14, charged with burglary, theft and unlawful taking of cars and a girl aged 16, charged with theft.

Appearing on a complaint that she was not under proper control a girl aged 14. was placed under Child Welfare supervision for two years. Supervision for 18 months was ordered for two boys aged 12 and 13, who answered charges of unlawful taking and theft. Two girls, aged 16, one charged with theft, the other appearing on a complaint that she was not under proper control, were put under supervision until their seventeenth birthday. Five boys aged 13 to, 16. charged with burglary, and tour boys of similar age charged with unlawful taking of cars, were put under supervision for a year. Two girls aged 14 and 15, found to be delinquent children, and two IS-year-old girls deemed to be hot under proper control, were also placed under supervision for one year, as was a boy aged 14, charged with theft. A boy aged 16 who appeared on a charge of theft as a servant, was given a year's supervision and was ordered to make restitution of $3O. A boy aged 14, who admitted unlawfully getting into a motor-car had his current supervision period extended by six months. In the following cases an admonished and discharged decision was given after a suitable period of adjournment: Five boys, aged 12 to 15, charged with burglary, two bbys. aged 16, charged with being idle-, and disorderly, a girl aged 11. who admitted theft ana receiving charges, a girl aged 14, who appeared on a Complaint that she was a delinquent child and on a charge of demanding money with menaces, a boy aged 14, who failed to comply with conditions of supervision, a girl aged 14, charged with theft, a girl aged 16. who escaped from lawful custody, and a boy, aged 16, who was found unlawfully on premises. Fines wera imposed as fallows:—

a boy aged 16, who used obscene language In a public place $10; and a boy aged 16. charged with burglary $4O, and receiving $2O.
