Advisers In Careers

From August 21 to 25, nearly 50 careers advisers from South Island schools and some from the North Island will gather at Lincoln College for the annual training course organised by the Christchurch Vocational Guidance Centre.

Most will be fairly new to the work in which, while still teaching in secondary schools, they have special responsibilities for helping pupils with educational and careers advice.

Careers advisers worked in dose consultation with the Education Department’s fulltime vocational guidance officers. Because the teachers know pupils better, their co-operation was valued by the professionals, said the District Vocational Guidance officer (Mr W. J. Boyd). For the opening of the course next week, the Regional Superintendent of Education (Mr S. S. P. Hamilton) will preside, Professor I. E. Coop will give a welcome for Lincoln College, and Mr C. V. Gallagher, headmaster of Shirley Boys’ High School, will speak on the place of vocational guidance in education.
