Buffalo Farms In Canada

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter)

OTTAWA

Buffalo farming will soon became possible in Canada through the co-operation of the National and Historic Paries Branch which has managed the surviving herds since 1897.

Public bids will be invited for the purchase of a herd unit of 20 to 25 buffalo to be selected from the herd of some 700 animals in Elk Island National Park, nepr Edmonton.

The popularity of buffalo meat in Canada, and the agreement of various provincial governments to the establishment of commercial sources of the meat, has led to the decision to make it possible to let ranchers enter the buffalo breeding business. The first buffalo herd sold will be made up of prime stock from Elk Island National Park where periodical herd reductions take place because of range limitations.
