TRAWLER RESCUED

Aground At Ngawi Pt

WELLINGTON, August 15. The Wellington fishing boat Newfish I, which went aground at Ngawi Point, two miles and a half east of Cape Palliser lighthouse at 4 a.m. today, was refloated five hours later by the Auckland tug Mahola and is being towed to Wellington by an Island Bay launch, the San Libreatore. She is not making water and has suffered only a damaged rudder. A 68ft stern trawler, the Newfish I is manned by Captain J. Campbell, Mr W. McGregor and another crew member. She is owned by N.Z. Fisheries, Ltd. Wellington radio called the Mohala which was proceeding through Cook Strait with a barge in tow. She was the only ship in the vicinity, being eight miles from the scene of the stranding.
