RANGI CASE
Appeal To Auckland
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND.
The past president and life member of the New Zealand Rugby Union, Mr T. H. Pearce, said in Auckland yesterday that the Auckland union should press at its meeting this evening to have the matter of R. Rangi's suspension clarified. He was commenting on the news that his telegram, protesting over the union’s handling of Rangi’s suspension, had been unanimously referred to the next meeting of the council, on October 7, and was not discussed at Monday’s meeting of the N.Z.R.U. executive. He said that the N.Z.R.U. had acted irregularly in the entire Rangi case. The whole subject had been improperly heard and dealt with.
“The Ponsonby club (of which Rangi is a member) has intimated it intends protesting at the Auckland union meeting,” said Mr Pearce, “it remains to be seen what the A.R.U. does.” The Auckland union chairman, Mr R. L. Burk, has been asked to advise Rangi on his suspension and to tell him that an appeal would be heard.
