MURRAY 73 IN GOLF

VICTORIA. The New Zealand No. 1, R. C. Murray, on 73, was five strokes behind the leader after the first round in the Canadian amateur golf championship yesterday. Murray led the New Zealand players. The leader was W. Vollmer, of Canada, on 68, with an Australian, W. Britten, and the British champion, M. F. Bonallack, sharing second place with 69. Other New Zealand scores were: G. E. Clarke 73, J. D. Durry 74, B. A. Stevens 74, and S. G. Jones 75.

The second 18 holes of the qualifying test will be played today, and the best 64 golfers will qualify for match play.
