This U after the failure of ■ high-ranking delegation of the Indonesian Armed Forces
chiefs to make Dr. Sukarno hand over the key to a box in which the faded red and white flag, first hoisted at the proclamation of Indonesian independence 20 years ago, was believed to have been stored. Palace officials yesterday received permission to prise open a wooden box, but when they raised the lid they found
the flag was missing. Dr. Sukarno claims the flag as his personal property. The people of Djakarta’s Semangi suburb announced
they planned to sue the deposed President for taking away their land to build a new hospital project Initiated by his Japanese-born third
wife, Ratna Sari Dewi. The project has been abandoned since the local people moved off the site two years ago. Mr Abdul Rachman, leader of the suburb’s action committee said the people now wanted their land back and planned to sue Dr. Sukarno for some 25 million rupiahs.
