NEWSPAPER STRIKE
Return To Work On Thursday
(N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright)
SYDNEY, August 15.
Sydney’s fortnight-old newspaper strike may possibly end on Thursday morning. Talks today apparently ironed out the last hitches preventing a resumption of work. The federal executive of the Australian Journalists* Association has instructed all journalists to report for work from 7 a.m. on Thursday. The last-known obstacle to a resumption of work was removed at a compulsory conference before two judges of the New South Wales Industrial Commission today. This was the issue of the alleged victimisation of six staff men—five at the “Daily Mirror” and one at the “Sydnew Morning Herald.” The Court made an order that these staff men should return to work on normal duties with the same grade, status and authority they enjoyed before they joined journalists on strike.
