60,000 Returns Dealt With

The Inland Revenue Department had dealt with all but 2000 of the 62,000 returns submitted by salary and wage earners for the last financial year, the Deputy Commissioner of Taxation (Mr R. W. G. Duckmanton) said yesterday. At the end of last week there were still 8000 returns to come.

The department had also received 12,000 returns from provisional taxpayers, and these were now being dealt with. Another 24,000 would be due by September 7. Mr Duckmanton said there were still 2400 reconciliation statements from employers outstanding. Polite notices had been issued to those concerned, and blunter notices would be issued soon. The reconciliation statements were due on May 15.
