any more loopholes in our licensing laws). Intelligent laws are made by intelligent people and respected by all, The existing laws are not, judging by recent Court cases.—Yours, etc., MY GLASS IS EMPTY.
August 14, 1967. Eastern Maori By-Election
Sir,—The published figures show the “majority for Reweti” as 1991. Mr Reweti (Labour) polled 4299 votes. Taking the votes not cast for Labour as a vote against Labour, the adverse votes were: National 2308, Social Credit 1169, Independent 654, Independent Labour 234; total 4365. On these figures, Mr Reweti has been elected on a deficiency of 76—not a majority of 1991.—Yours, etc., BY THE WAYSIDE.
August 14, 1967. Pen-Friends Wanted Three Japanese university students want New Zealand pen-friends. They are: Takemaru Tateno, 1413 Nagataeho, Minami-ku, Yokohama, Japan; Nobuko Kato and Ryoko Yaegashi, 9-7, Daitoh I-chome, Daitoh-ku, Ryoko Yaegashi, Tokyo, Japan. Mr Tatene is 19, and his hobbies are literature and travel. Miss Kato (20) and Miss Yaegashi (22), intend to visit New Zealand.
