DJAKARTA, August 14. A leading Army commander yesterday urged the Acting President, General Suharto, to act with “no qualms” against anyone found working for the return of President Sukarno. Major-General Charsono, a division commander in West Java, speaking to a cheering audience of Army veterans at TJirebon, called for the elimination of persons General Suharto himself has described as “irrationals who can see Sukarno’s faults yet want to maintain him in his position.”
General Charsono Is reported as saying that “the time has come to rid ourselves of the irrational elements. Let us have no qualms about that If they want to revolt let them revolt We are not afraid.”
