COLLEGE DAMAGED

New Britain Tremors RABAUL (New Britain), August 14. The walls of buildings on the northern tip of New Britain bulged as though they were being pushed from within by giant hands as the area was wrecked by earth tremors today. In one of the hardest-hit areas the Kakaleo Teacher Training College, near Kokopo, was wrecked by the earthquakes, which struck early this morning. Many of the college’s woodframe buildings were knocked from their concrete foundations, and roofs were left at crazy angles. The college principal, Sister Mary Kostka, said: “Every piece of crockery we own is broken.”
