LAUNCH TRIPS AT NIGHT

Proposals For Lake Te Anau

A big boom in tourist traffic on Lake Te Anau is expected by the Manapouri-Doubtful Sound Tourist Company. Tourist trips by night on Lake Te Anau will soon be increased by the presence of the two big passenger launches from Lake Manapouri, Fiordlander I and Fiordlander 11. The 15-ton launches will be taken out of Lake Manapouri each evening and transported by road to Lake Te Anau—a distance of 11 miles—on two huge tank-recovery vehicles, known as Scammells. Then after their night trips on the lake, the launches will be taken back to Lake Manapouri for their trips on that lake next day. The presence of the Fiordlander I and Fiordlander II at Lake Te Anau is expected to help provide the night entertainment that many tourists there find lacking.
