Transport Bd. Office

The Christchurch Transport Board will notify its intention of raising a loan of $1,500,000 to build a new office block on its Cathedral square site. Sketch plans for the building have been drawn up and the board hopes to have it completed in 1970. Much of the building will be let to private organisations. The chairman of the works and traffic committee (Mr S. E. Boanas) told the board yesterday that the building could be 144 ft high and be within the limits of the Town and Country Planning Appeal Board requirements.

“After the Transport Board’s requirements there will be some 8j floors to let of 5400 sq. ft. each. A prospective tenant will take six floors for 10 years. “With the board’s requirements, this will ensure that 75 per cent of the space is let before the building is started. There will be another two 2J floors to let and there should be no difficulty in finding tenants,” he said.
