Vegetable And Fruit Prices
Good spring weather over the week-end and yesterday produced a demand for salad vegetables in Christchurch produce markets yesterday. Lettuces were mainly in demand and best quality outside lettuces brought up to $3.90 a case. Nelson lettuces realised up to $3.30 a case while those from Oamaru realised up to $2 a case and local glasshouse lettuces sold as high as $4.80 a dozen. There was a very heavy supply of leeks and their price dropped as low as 60c a case compared with $1 to $1.20 last week. An excellent supply of brussel sprouts from Oamaru attracted up to $3 a case, while spring weather Pukekohe potatoes were in demand again and sold at up to 13c a pound. Prices supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers’ Association were: Silver Beet. —40c to $1 a case. Beetroot. —To 60c a case. Pumpkins.—To $7 a saek. Cabbages.—Spring: To $1.20 a sack; Savoy, 50c to $1 a sack. Carrots. —50c to $2.10 a case. Cauliflowers.—soc to $1.40 a case. Onions.—To $1.50 a sugar bag. Parsnips.—To $l.BO a case. Sprouts.—To $3.80 a case. Swedes.—To $1.20 a sugar bag. Potatoes.—To $2.30 a sugar bag. Kumeras.—To $3 a case. Spring Onions. To $1.15 a dozen bunches. Radishes. —To 60c a dozen bunches. Parsley.—loc a bunch. Lettuces.—To $3.90 a case. Leeks.—To 90c a case. Celery.—sl.4o to $2.20 a case. Spinach.—To $1.60 a case. Cucumbers.—To $2.25 a case. Rhubarb.—To $2.80 a dozen bunches.
