Three From Canterbury Touring Hockey Players
Canterbury has provided A. Patterson, K. Thomson and J. Borren in the 16 hockey players chosen by the national selectors (Messrs L D. Armstrong and R. McKinley) to represent New Zealand in the international hockey tournament in London in October.
Twelve members of the touring party are in the test squad in the present series against Australia. J. H. Christensen, B. Maister and S. Maister (all of Canterbury) are not available for the tour because of university studies. The tour, the most ambitious undertaken by a New Zealand hockey team, will include matches in Canada, Germany and Holland, in addition to the five games to be played at the London tournament.
Mr T. Timpany (Wanganui) has been appointed manager
and Mr R. McKinlay will be the coach. A. Patterson has been named as captain and J. Anslow vice-captain.
The team is:— Goalkeepers: R McPherson (Whangarei). T. Manning (Wellington. Backs: A. Patterson (Canterbury), R Capey (Whangarei), I. Free (Auckland). Halves: K. Thomson (Canterbury), J. Anslow, G. Atwell, J. Palmer (Auckland), J. Hicks (Whangarei). Forwards: B. Judge (Wellington), J. Borren (Canterbury), E. Salmon (Whangarei), A. Corbett (Taranaki), B. Rogers (Auckland). A Mclntyre (Wanganui).
