FINE PRESENTATION OF “SALAD DAYS”
Strong principals, fine chorus work and swift scene changes were the feature of the St Margaret’s College presentation of Julian Slade’s “Salad Days” which began ,at the college last evening. The standard of production achieved reflects credit on Shirley Kingston, the producer, and Mavis Allison, the musical director.
The presentation aptly captured the light-hearted, yet warm spirit required. Much of this was because of the acting and singing of Yvonne Mackay, who made the most of her part as Jane. Hilary Tomlin, as Timothy, also played her part well, but needed to be a little more
forceful to be thoroughly convincing. The wordless part of Troppo was well interpreted by Nikki Reynolds, who made good use of her hands and eyes to portray the character. Although she only made a brief appearance as Asphynxia, Lynn Bowman demonstrated that she had a rich and resonant voice.
About 20 players with speaking parts contributed to the standard of the show with their understanding and interpretation of their respective parts. The 19 scene changes were effected with speed and efficiency. The show will conclude tomorrow.
