DESIGN WINNER
Miss Ryan, who is 18, was crowed “Queen of the Furrow” during the International Ploughing Championships in Canterbury earlier this year. She is a graphic artist on the staff of the United Empire Box Company.
More than 350 entries were received.
The contest was judged for the N.ZJ3.C. by three experts in design from different fields. They are Mrs Kate Coolahan, graphic designer of the Wellington Polytechnic School of Designing; Mr Jeffrey Nees, an Industrial designer in the Department of Industries and Commerce; and Mr Raymond Boyce, theatrical designer of the New Zealand Opera and the New Zealand Ballet
The winning design and 20 highly commended entries will be on display at the National Youth Orchestra concerts In Hastings on August 30, in Masterton on August 31, and in Wellington in September. Miss Ryan will be presented with her prize of 100 dollars at the Wellington concert.
